Simple Strategies for Sit and Go Poker Tournaments

Sit and Go poker tournaments, otherwise known as Single-Table No-Limit Texas Holdem competitions, are among the forms of poker tournaments popular in the world today. Here are some simple winning strategies for this poker type.

The first thing to remember is that we have to have a strategy that is a bit loose when playing a 10-handed Sit and Go poker tournament where the reward structure is 50 percent to the first place winner, 30 percent to the second winner, and 20 percent to the third winner. Secondly, when the tournament starts we should aim, if possible, to see a flop.

We can also opt for a limping strategy in this Sit and Go poker tournament using exploratory hands like low pair 3 club and 3 spade. But we can raise with premium hands like Q diamond and Q spade. But if we wish to see a lot of flops we should opt for a limping strategy, if possible, using medium-strength hands like suited J10 (spade).

The character of a lower buy-in limit Sit and Go poker tournament is that bad players are likely to bet aggressively but play their hands loosely in the first rounds of the game. Thus, when we chance upon a good hit for a formidable hand we may win over these players. But once the pot is often raised we need to shift strategy and play a bit more tightly. We see more flops in a Sit and Go poker tournament this way.

At mid-part of the tournament (or when the big blind is equal to 10 percent of our starting stack) we need to have a strategy on stealing the blinds. When no player has yet called or raised the big blind in a Sit and Go poker tournament, we should raise often when we are first to be in the pot. Raise in amounts about 3 to 4 times the minimum bet.

If we are in early position and hold an AA, we need to have someone raise after us. So we just limp in. When turn comes around again, we re-raise the raiser. This is an option in a Sit and Go poker tournament.

These simple winning strategies for a Sit and Go poker tournament can set the stage for favorable results in the competition. Just play a bit loosely with care and go after the big blind to gain momentum in the game. Then we can play the contest more confidently.
