The Poker Career of Isaac Haxton
Some parents do not want their children getting hooked in playing professional poker. For one, it is because some parents do not consider poker as a profession. And two, because some parents will always regard poker as a gambling activity and nothing more. The beliefs of the parents of Isaac Haxton were the same the first time they found out that their son was interested in playing professional poker. They had always wanted Isaac Haxton to pursue a career that can really be considered a profession. They never imagined their son to be engaged in a profession related to gambling. But when this poker professional showed his parents the first check he earned from playing poker, they somehow stopped showing their disapproval. And while Isaac Haxton continues to show how he excels in playing poker professionally, all the more that his parents stopped going against the profession that he has chosen for himself.
Isaac Haxton is one of those young poker professionals we see in front of poker tables. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts but is currently residing in Syracuse, New York. He honed his poker skills during his teenage and high school years, only playing home games since he was not yet allowed to enter casinos during that time. When he reached college, he decided to try his luck by participating in a poker game conducted at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino located in New York. He used his winnings from such game to play online poker to further augment his skills in playing poker. Soon thereafter, all his summer vacations were spent playing online poker at home. He was determined to enhance his poker skills by playing online poker at least twenty hours on a weekly basis until he became a full-time online poker professional. This poker professional also admits to have read approximately thirty books about poker to gain more than enough knowledge that would prepare him for international poker competitions.
Those who have seen Isaac Haxton play at live poker events describe his playing style as a mature one for a player who is in his early twenties. The first time that this poker professional showed his outstanding poker skills was on January 10, 2007 when he joined the No Limit Hold'em event of the PokerStars Caribeean Adventure tournament of the World Poker Tour that was held at the Atlantis Resort and Casino. His opponents, as well as all the poker enthusiasts who were watching the game, were surprised to see Isaac Haxton place second and taking home an amount of US$861,789. He tried his luck in another World Poker Tour game on March 1 but only placed twenty fifth. Nevertheless, this poker professional was able to take home US$45,560.
This poker professional also participated in several World Series of Poker events in 2007. The first one was in June wherein he placed 130th and won US$4,451, the second one was on July 2 wherein he placed seventh and took home US$96,798, and the third one was on July 17 in which he placed ninety fourth and took home the cash prize of US$67,535.
At such a young age, Isaac Haxton has proven a lot in the world of poker.
